America is often associated with the birth of landscape painting. In this section you will see late 19th century Rhode Island painters who excelled in painting the local land and stunning eastern coastline. Later dominance in industrial manufacturing radically transformed the local community, and the urban landscape was added to the artist’s repertoires of images. These subjects continue to captivate artists throughout the 20th century; a cross-section of these styles is on view at the gallery.
